Google Launches Mail Goggles

Google to the rescue! Google has announced “mail goggles”. When you enable Mail Goggles, it will check that you’re really sure you want to send that late night Friday email. And what better way to check than by making you solve a few simple math problems after you click send to verify you’re in the right state of mind?

Google’s idea is to prevent those embarrassing mishaps on a Friday evening after a few alcoholic beverages.

Firefox Extension Blocks Dangerous Web Attack

A popular free security tool for the Firefox browser has been upgraded to block one of the most dangerous and troubling security problems facing the Web today. NoScript is a small application that integrates into Firefox. It blocks scripts in programming languages such as javascript and Java from executing on untrusted Web pages. The scripts could be used to launch an attack on a PC.

The latest release of NoScript, version 1.8.2.1, will stop so-called “clickjacking,” where a person browsing the Web clicks on a malicious, invisible link without realizing it, said Giorgio Maone, an Italian security researcher who wrote and maintains the program. Clickjacking has been known for several years but is drawing attention again after two security researchers, Robert Hansen and Jeremiah Grossman, warned last month of new scenarios that could compromise a person’s privacy or even worse, steal money from a bank account.

Firefox Users Gain Location Tool

Mozilla, the company behind the Firefox browser, has released technology that helps websites detect the physical location of computers.

The system will allow users, for instance, to find local restaurants when they travel to a new town.

The Geode project is an experimental add-on ahead of a full blown launch of geolocation technology in version 3.1 of Firefox.

Users will have control over how much location information they give.

It uses technology from a firm called Skyhook which works out a computer’s location from nearby wireless networks.

Its so-called Loki system can determine location within seconds with an accuracy of about 10 to 20 metres.

Local news

Mike Shaver, Mozilla’s vice president of engineering believes Geode will have a range of applications going beyond looking up restaurants.

“People have got to eat but there is a lot more to it than that,” he said.

“We see location as adding an extra layer to help get people the information they need,” he said.

Specific local news and website authentication that only allows people to log in from certain locations are other possible uses of the technology.

Farther out, Mr Shaver envisages location becoming “ambient”, with people able to look up what others have done at particular places.

Geode is strictly controlled by the user. When a website requests a location, a notification bar lets users decide whether to give their exact whereabouts, the neighbourhood or city they are in or nothing at all.

A story from a Novell NetWare SysOp

CALLER: “Hello, is this Tech Support?”
TECH: “Yes, it is. How may I help you?”
CALLER: “The cup holder on my PC is broken -and I am within my warranty period. How do I go about getting that fixed?”
TECH: “I’m sorry, but did you say a cup holder?”
CALLER: “Yes, it’s attached to the front of my computer.”
TECH: “Please excuse me. If I seem a bit stumped, it’s because I am. Did you receive this as part of a promotional at a trade show? How did you get this cup holder? Does it have any trademark on it?”
CALLER: “It came with my computer. I don’t know anything about a promotional. It just has ‘4X’ on it.” At this point, the Tech Rep had to mute the caller because he couldn’t stand it. He was laughing too hard. The caller had been using the load drawer of the CD-ROM drive as a cup holder and it had snapped it off the drive.

15 Second Boot Times In Windows 7: Microsoft

Microsoft wants to dramatically improve boot times in Windows 7 after admitting that Vista has failed to meet its goal of providing high-speed booting for the majority of PCs.Postings on Microsoft’s Engineering Windows 7 blog have so far been notable largely for their ability to say almost “it depends” in response to almost any Windows-related issue, but a new post by engineer Michael Fortin does come close to making some promises about how boot performance — long a thorn in the side of Vista and its predecessors — might be improved.

“For Windows 7, a top goal is to significantly increase the number of systems that experience very good boot times,” Fortin wrote. “In the lab, a very good system is one that boots in under 15 seconds.”

Microsoft’s own internal performance assessment shows that virtually no Vista systems are meeting that goal. Data collected from users via the Customer Experience Improvement Program suggests that only 35% of systems boot within 30 seconds or less. According to Microsoft, 75% of systems boot within 50 seconds.

In practice, you’re unlikely to be able to use your machine at that point — this is a measure of ‘System Responsive’ time, so any applications that load during your startup process will probably hog the system for a while longer. Indeed, Fortin acknowledges that Microsoft’s measure doesn’t have much to do with actually using your computer: “We realize there are other perceptions that users deem as reflecting boot time, such as when the disk stops, when their apps are fully responsive, or when the start menu and desktop can be used.”

Even with that huge caveat, some systems in the data Fortin published display boot times of several minutes, a factor Microsoft partly attributes to system updates which load after booting. As any Vista user knows, when patching is taking place you might as well take a walk to the nearest cafe.

Fortin admits this represents a problem: “From our perspective, too few systems consistently boot fast enough and we have to do much better.”

” Robot Building “

The Bank of Asia is a very famous building in Bangkok . It was made way back in 1985, and it’s robotic appearance is just a symbol of the modernization of banking. It also has the ability to transform into a mega-robot. So, if Godzilla ever decided to show his green face in the land of Bangkok , they would have to fight!
image006.jpg
“Ripley’s Building”

If you saw this picture for the first time, you’d probably thought that it was hit by a massive earthquake. But it wasn’t. In true fashion of the Ripley Legacy, it was built to reflect the odd 1812 earthquake that measured 8.0 on the rick. The building has now become one of the most photographed in the world because of it.
image007.jpg
“The Wilson Hall”

This somewhat modernize building was actually built between 1971 and 1974. It’s unique design gives the Wilson Hall a great sense of structure, and a prominent landmark for the skyline. The building provides big laboratories, offices, and supports space for over 1500 scientists. And it houses all kinds of strange experiments.
image008.jpg
“135 Degree Angle”

This bizarre house really doesn’t have an official name, but it does have a 135 degree angle. So that’s what we’re going to call it. Unfortunately, the only info we have about this house is that it was built in China or Japan . And that it has a silly pink roof. And if you look real close, you’ll notice that it’s on a 135 degree damn angle.
image009.jpg
“Hotel Sofitel”

This hotel’s unique design was directly inspired by the traditional temples in Japan . The Tokyo Sofitel has over 72 rooms, and 11 suites with 3 non-smoking floors. And 5 meeting rooms that includes high-tech boardrooms. Please realize that you have to sell your soul in order to step foot inside this amazing hotel.
image010.jpg
” Triangle Building “

We wonder what type of work goes on inside this kind of a building. The unofficial Triangle Building is just a wonder to look at and to ponder over. But, can this be one of the evil headquarters for Scientology or Starbucks? Does this building have triangle bathrooms? There’s so many damn questions!
image011.jpg
“The Astra Haus”

The strange building is actually a brewery in Hamburg , Germany . The floors can move up or down on it’s skinny column core. As of now, the unique building has been destroyed. One of it’s more famous beer brands was recently bought by a big refreshment corporation. And that beer brand was called Astra.
image012.jpg
“Upside Downer”

Take a journey into the unknown with a building called Wonder Works . It’s central Florida ’s only upside down attraction. And an amusement park for your mind, and your stoner friends. This odd building has over 100 wacky interactive exhibits for your entire family to experience. But make sure you free your weed before coming.
image013.jpg
“Crooked House”

You know that your looking at a real building right? The Crooked House was built in 2004 as an addition at a popular shopping center, and is a major tourist attraction in Sopot , Poland . We just wonder what happens when someone who’s under a controlled substance sees this building for the first time in their life.
